Hunger (2008)

Hunger is Steve McQueen's unflinching 2008 drama about the 1981 IRA hunger strike, built almost entirely around a physically punishing performance from Michael Fassbender as Bobby Sands. The role demanded total exposure, literal and otherwise, and Fassbender goes fully naked as his body wastes away on screen. The 2 scenes gathered here capture some of the rawest, least vain footage of his career. This is arthouse cinema first, but his commitment leaves absolutely nothing hidden.
